GTK Boxer A1 Gruppentransportfahrzeug
The GTK Boxer A1 Armored Personnel Carrier, which was fielded with the Bundeswehr beginning in November 2010, took over missions orginally performed by the Transportpanzer 1 Fuchs. The first GTK Boxer was designated the A0 variant and it is easily distinguished by the FLW 200 RCWS mounted directly on the roof of the fighting compartment. By the summer of 2011, delivery began of combat capability-improved vehicles that are designated GTK Boxer A1 APCs. Features include, for example, the FLW 200 being installed on a 300mm platform in order to reduce the dead angle in which the RWS cannot be used to engage targets. Furthermore this variant is also equipped with the CG-12 ECM system. Vehicles operating in Afghanistan also received mine protection plates on the lower hull and in the wheel housings. Depending on mission requirements the FLW 200 remote weapon station of the vehicle can be armed with a 12.7mm x 99 M2HB QCB machine gun or a Heckler & Koch 40mm x 53 automatic grenade launcher. Additionally a 76mm smoke grenade discharger system with six launchers is attached to the remote weapon station.
