Bewegliche Befehlsstelle Wiesel 2

The Wiesel 2 Mobile Command Post can serve as a command vehicle within the FüInfoSysH command, control, communications and intelligence system without relying on any kind of built-up infrastructure. Therefore, it allows e.g. the commander of an airborne infantry battalion to lead his forces while remaining well informed on the overall situation and being protected by armour.

The Wiesel 2 Mobile Command Post, which is integrated into the FüInfoSysH, was designed to be employed to fulfil a large range of tasks. These include use as a standalone command asset to conduct specific command tasks, as well as serving as a computer-assisted operations centre that manages information flow to units of other branches of the army, higher headquarters and commands. The modern communication equipment of the vehicle allows it to receive information from external sources by radio. Inside the vehicle, information can be put together, processed and passed on. The first two Wiesel Mobile Command Post vehicles were delivered in 2006, and the remaining 30 vehicles of the contract followed between 2011 and 2012. On the left side of the crew compartment the following equipment is mounted: two Rocky III+ notebooks, the ICOS-SW GH 12 network switch and other components of the FüInfoSysH. On the right side of the rear compartment is mounted comprehensive vehicle radio equipment. It includes two SEM 93 VHF radios for data and voice communication, a powerful 400W HRM 7400 HF radio and the ELCRODAT 4-2 encrypting unit. Recently the vehicles were equipped with the INMARSAT BGAN Explorer 727 satellite communication system. To allow the vehicle commander to operate the FüInfoSysH while the vehicle is on the move and with his seat facing in the driving direction, he has been equipped with the Panther P8 APC 4 console that allows him to enter data and operate the system. The console is stored in a bracket to his right.
