Transportpanzer 1A8A2A1 Fuchs Beweglicher Arzttrupp

Initially the Bundeswehr fielded seven Transportpanzer 1A4A1 Fuchs Standard mit SEM 80/90 mit Raumkühlanlage und Einbausatz Sanität with the ambulance mission kit. Most were used by medical sections of the 552nd Light Infantry Battalion and the 233rd Mountain Infantry Battalion. For service in Somalia with the German UNOSOM II contingent, some vehicles were equipped with an air-conditioning system and then designated Transportpanzer 1A4A1 Fuchs Standard mit SEM 80/90 mit Raumkühlanlage und Einbausatz Sanität.

From 1995 onwards, some vehicles were upgraded with improved ballistic protection and were designated Transportpanzer 1A7A2 Fuchs Standard zusatzgepanzert mit SEM 80/90 mit Raumkühlanlage und Einbausatz Sanität. Subsequently, other vehicles were upgraded to this variant to address requirements for armoured ambulances for German troops deployed with IFOR, SFOR and KFOR. The original ambulance mission kit includes two stretcher carriers installed on the left and right sides of the cargo compartment.

By installing the 76mm smoke grenade discharger system with eight additional launchers on the roof of the rear crew compartment, the designation changed from Transportpanzer 1A8A2 Fuchs BAT to Transportpanzer 1A8A2A1 Fuchs BAT.

The Transportpanzer 1A8A2A1 Fuchs Standard mit SEM 80/90 mit Zusatzpanzerung, IED-/Minenschutz, Raumkühlanlage, Schutzausstattung CG-12 und Einbausatz Sanität Beweglicher Arzttrupp (BAT) features improved ballistic, mine and IED protection. All components are mounted decoupled from the hull floor. As this variant is used as a mobile physician’s vehicle, its crew consists of a driver, paramedic and emergency physician. The vehicle can carry only one wounded patient who needs intensive care on a stretcher, or two lightly wounded patients.
