The Stryker Interim Armored Vehicle (IAV) is based on the Piranha III produced by General Dynamics European Land Systems – Mowag GmbH of Switzerland. The primary design of the IAV, which is a joint venture betweeen General Motors Defense of Canada and General Dynamics Land Systems of the USA, has two variants; the Infantry System (ICV) and the Mobile Gun System (MGS). Stryker IAV research and development started back October 1999 when the U.S. Army’s Chief of Staff, General Eric Shinseki, outlined the U.S. Army transformation to the „Objective Force“ by 2010.
