On 20 November 2019, Tank-Masters.de had the great opportunity to attend the 40 year anniversary ceremony of the roll out of the first Leopard 2 main battle tank at the KMW facilities in Munich.

In autumn 1979, the Bundeswehr introduced the first Leopard 2 MBT to uniquely combine the combat value criteria of firepower, mobility, protection and commandability.

International guests from the military and from industry took part in the ceremony and, during a panel discussion entitled “A European Tank Fleet: First Step Towards a European Army?”, talked about the future of the Leopard 2 MBT.

The continuous development and upgrading of the Leopard 2 A4 to the current A7V variant make it even today one of the best main battle tanks in the world, on which a total of 19 nations rely.

On 8 November 2019, Tank-Masters.de visited 2nd Company, 92nd Armored Infantry Demonstration Battalion and 4th Company, 901st Engineer Battalion during a tactical river crossing as part of the Exercise Black Taurus 2019 near Storkau.

On 5 November 2019, Tank-Masters.de spent most of the day visiting our friends of the Training Unit of the German Army Combat Training Center in Letzlingen while they attacked the Task Force led by 371st Armored Infantry Battalion from Marienberg during the exercise Enforced Integrity 2019.

Today Tank-Masters.de visited 4th Company, 393rd Armor Battalion from Bad Frankenhausen during the exercise Enforced Integrity 2019 at the German Army Combat Training Center in the Altmark. The exercise is led by 371st Armored Infantry Battalion from Marienberg.

Recently Tank-Masters.de visited Bravo Platoon, 3rd Company, 26th Airborne Regiment EGB during their exercises at the Special Operations Training Center in Pfullendorf.

On 29 October 2019, Tank-Masters.de had the very unique opportunity to join the roll out ceremony of the new German Leopard 2A7V MBT and the Danish Leopard 2A7DK at the Krauss-Maffei Wegmann (KMW) facilities in Munich.

Frank Haun, Chairman of the Board of KMW, presented the symbolic keys of the first two vehicle systems to the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Denmark, Friis Arne Petersen, and the Parliamentary State Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Defence, Dr. Peter Tauber. Both nations are receiving comparable variants of the Leopard 2 A7 main battle tank.

Protection, mobility, firepower and commandability were significantly increased. The main features include an even higher protection level, high-performance power supply, new NBC and air conditioning systems as well as the integration of C4 I systems in order to meet the requirements of modern, networked operation. The modernisation of the driveline and a further optimisation of the weapon stabilisation during travel bolster the vehicles’ agility and combat performance. The Danish army will receive a total of 44 Leopard 2 A7 vehicles by 2022. The German Federal Armed Forces will gain 104 Leopard 2 A7V vehicles by 2023.

From to 26 to 28 October 2019 Tank-Masters.de has visited the Battalion Combat Training Exercise Celtic Storm 2019 of 345th Artillery Demonstration Battalion from Baumholder in the vicinity of Meisenheim and Bad Kreuznach.
